After coming off a world tour with The Scissor Sisters and Kesha, Amber Martin returns to Madame Sherri's with her critically acclaimed, loud, luminous & loving tribute to Bette Midler’s early performances at The Continental Baths. This performance focuses on the late 60's & early 70’s, when a 26 year-old, hungry, as-yet-unknown starlet, Bette Midler, got her chops as the resident firecracker chanteuse singing at the legendary gay bathhouse uptown NYC (now a parking lot under The Ansonia). She earned her “camp medals” in the hot & steamy bathhouse, singing to men in towels, still wet from the pool and other dark spaces. Her as-yet-unknown house accompanist was none other than Barry Manilow. As per the fiery fashion of beloved Bette… copious amounts of big-hearted singing, salty stories and spirited dancing ensue! Prepare to get a little steamy as Bathhouse Bette pays tribute to the bawdy, sometimes naughty comedy, and beautiful music of Bette Midler in a celebration of the earliest bathhouse performances by the iconic singer, actor and comedian. Amber will be performing live accompanied by her very own “Barry” on piano.
The Australian Arts Review called Amber’s Bathhouse Bette at the recent 2021 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, “A saucy, grand-Belle, tribute show—“ and said Amber is the “queen of crescendo” and a ‘ballsy broad’ with a wicked vocal command.
